48 illegal miners arrested after exiting AngloGold Obuasi mine shaft

The number of illegal miners who were trapped along with others in the Obuasi Mine shaft of AngloGold Ashanti Ghana has increased from seven to forty-eight. After leaving the mine, these illegal miners have been apprehended and arrested.

In an earlier statement, the mining company reported that seven individuals were already in the custody of the Ghana Police Service.

The company clarified that unauthorized individuals underground can leave on foot using the existing ramp, which serves as the main access to the mining area. No one underground has been forcibly confined, and the main exit ramp from the mine remains open.

The management team of the Obuasi Gold Mine has informed the relevant authorities and public security services and is collaborating closely with them, as stated in their official announcement.
