On Saturday, July 22, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo visited Rome and had a cordial meeting with Pope Francis.
The primary objective of the visit was to strengthen the diplomatic ties between Ghana and the Vatican.
This visit to the Holy See was a significant part of the President’s four-day official trip to Italy, during which Ghana aimed to reaffirm the friendly relationship between the two countries.
During the visit, the Ghanaian delegation, led by Cardinal Peter Kodwo Appiah Turkson, a distinguished Ghanaian Catholic priest, was given a tour of the Pontifical Academies of Sciences at the Vatican.

Ghana shares the same goals as the Holy See in addressing pressing global issues like the climate crisis, human trafficking, and the promotion of equality for all.
On the occasion of Pope Francis’ 10th anniversary in office, which coincided with the National Day of the Holy See, President Nana Akufo-Addo commended the Pope for his dedication to the well-being of humanity.

He praised Pope Francis for promoting fairness and equality among nations and for standing against discrimination and exploitation since the beginning of his papacy in 2013.

Over the years, the Vatican has been supportive of Ghana’s development agenda, particularly in areas like education, health, and youth development.
