President Akufo-Addo has cancelled the appointments of 24 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), as conveyed in a letter to the Minister of Local Government and Decentralisation, Dan Botwe. This action aligns with Article 243(3)(B) of the constitution and Section 20(3)(b) of the Local Government Act, 2014.

Akufo-Addo stated that this decision takes immediate effect, and replacements will be announced soon. Despite delaying the appointment of MMDCEs for over nine months during his second term, the sudden revocation has prompted concerns regarding the smooth functioning of the local assemblies.
However, the reasons behind this move remain unclear, especially given that it comes just 11 months before the end of Akufo-Addo’s tenure.
