An armed robbery targeted Abdullah Mubarik, a parliamentary hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Sunyani West constituency. The incident occurred on Saturday morning along the Sunyani Chiraa road at approximately 2:00 am.

Mubarik, along with two companions, was en route from Sunyani to Chiraa to meet with delegates ahead of the primaries when they were assaulted by the robbers. The assailants made off with their mobile phones, laptops, and an undisclosed sum of money. Mubarik sustained injuries to his chest and right hand and was promptly taken to the hospital for medical attention.
The matter has been reported to the Sunyani West District police for further investigation. Mubarik recounted the ordeal during a press interview after requesting discharge to partake in the electoral process. Despite the incident, he urged delegates to vote overwhelmingly for him, asserting that he is the most capable candidate to assist the NPP in securing victory after eight years.

Mubarik faces competition from three other aspirants, including Ama Frimpomaa, Managing Director of SIC Life Savings and Loans, and the incumbent MP and Minister for Labour and Employment Relations, Ignatius Baffour Awuah. A total of 1,029 delegates are anticipated to participate in the election.
