
The former Minister of Defence, Lieutenant General Joseph Henry Smith, will be laid to rest on Saturday, December 23, 2023. The burial ceremony is scheduled to take place at 7:00 am at the Al-Azziz Mosque located at Burma Camp in Accra.
The family, represented by Ambassador Victor Smith, announced this information in a statement on Wednesday. The late Lieutenant General Joseph Henry Smith, a former Army Commander and Ambassador to the United States, will receive a complete Military burial, in accordance with Islamic traditions.

Lt General Smith, who served as the Minister of Defence during President John Evans Atta Mills’ administration and also held the role of Ghana’s Ambassador to the USA, passed away on Tuesday, December 19, at the age of 78, following a brief illness.
