The Magistrate’s Court in Awutu Bereku, located in the Central Region, has handed down a verdict in which a 46-year-old mason named Nicholas Kofi Owusu has been sentenced to a two-week imprisonment term and a GH¢300 fine for his neglect of his two children.
Owusu entered a guilty plea with an explanation, which led to his conviction based on his admission of guilt. The charge against him was centered on his failure to provide for his children’s well-being.

In the event that he does not pay the stipulated fine, an additional two weeks in prison will be added to his sentence.
Presided over by Naomi Kuntor, the court ordered Owusu to contribute GH¢1,000 every month to support the maintenance of his children.
This legal action was initiated by his wife, Dorcas Kwakye, a 38-year-old trader, who took him to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service for his neglect of their children.
Chief Inspector Charles Annobil, who handled the prosecution, recounted that Owusu and Ms. Kwakye, both residents of Fetteh Kakraba in the Central Region, had been in a marriage for 16 years and had two children aged 14 and 10.
