Nigerian singer, Chidinma Ekile, recently shared an emotional story about her life in an interview with the Nigerian Tribune. The singer, who rose to fame after winning the third season of the MTN Project Fame West Africa music competition, revealed that she was born blind.
In her words, “I was born blind. I just couldn’t see for some months, but after a while, my parents took me to the hospital but all proved abortive.”
“We had to resort to God, here is my mum, being a prayer warrior; she just started praying all of a sudden, started fasting from nowhere. These were things my parents were never used to but they had to because of the situation. And eventually, I started to see.
“I remember that my mum, according to her, had promised to give me back to God, if God could help her solve that problem. Without my knowledge, my mum made a deal with God.”

Despite her early struggles, Chidinma remained determined to pursue her passion for music. She said, “I’ve always loved music, and I knew from a young age that it was something I wanted to do. I used to sing in church and at school, and I knew that I had a gift.”
Chidinma’s talent was eventually recognized when she auditioned for the MTN Project Fame West Africa music competition in 2010. She went on to win the competition and released her debut single, “Jankoliko,” shortly afterward.
Reflecting on her journey to success, Chidinma said, “It hasn’t been easy, but I’m grateful for the opportunities that I’ve had. I’ve been able to share my gift with the world, and that’s all I ever wanted.”
Chidinma’s story is a testament to the power of determination and perseverance. Despite the challenges she faced early in life, she remained focused on her dream and worked hard to make it a reality. Her story is an inspiration to anyone who has faced adversity and is working to overcome it.
