Dr. Benjamin Otchere-Ankrah, a lecturer at Central University, has advocated for the removal of Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta from his position now that the IMF deal has been finalized.
After a long wait, the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) executive board has approved a $3 billion bailout package for Ghana, aimed at addressing the country’s economic crisis. The IMF stated in a Wednesday press release that $600 million would be immediately disbursed, with the remaining funds becoming available over the next three years.
In response to this development, Dr. Otchere-Ankrah is urging President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to honor his promise of letting the Finance Minister go after the conclusion of the IMF deal.

“Some time ago, we heard some Members of Parliament calling for the Finance Minister’s resignation, and the President requested that we wait for him to complete the budget arrangements and IMF deal. He assured us that once he is finished, he will allow him to leave. So now that he has completed those tasks, we are waiting for the President to decide whether he will release him or if he will depart on his own,” Dr. Otchere-Ankrah reminded the President.

He also suggested organizing a send-off event for Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta and volunteered to serve as the Master of Ceremony (MC) for the occasion.
“By God’s grace, we are done with the IMF, Ken is tired. He should go and rest . . . we should organize a send-off for him. I will attend it; in fact I will be the MC for his send-off,” he told Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM’s‘Kokrokoo’ show.
