An Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), identified only as Asante, is alleged to have aided Daniel Bugri Naabu in recording a conversation between himself and two senior police officers.
Superintendent George L. Asare, one of the officers captured on the recorded conversation discussing the plot with Daniel Bugri Naabu and Commissioner of Police, Mr. George Alex Mensah, mentioned Asante’s name during his appearance before the Parliamentary Committee investigating the tape and its contents.

Supt Asare revealed that his own intelligence gathering led him to believe that ASP Asante was responsible for making the recording. Interestingly, when the tape was leaked, Bugri Naabu called Supt Asare on the phone and mentioned the name Asante, questioning why he had leaked the tape, seemingly unaware that he had actually called Asare.
Earlier, when Daniel Bugri Naabu appeared before the committee, he admitted to making the recording but did not disclose the name of the person who assisted him.
COP George Alex Mensah, during his appearance before the committee, implicated Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare in the recording and subsequent leaking of the tape. The committee is considering inviting IGP Dampare for further inquiry.
Supt. Asare, while providing limited information about ASP Asante, informed the committee that COP George Alex Mensah, one of the officers captured on the leaked tape, had supported ASP Asante in attending the Police College. He stated that he would share more details about ASP Asante with the committee privately.
Superintendent Asare was one of the individuals captured on the tape discussing reasons for the removal of IGP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare from office.
The secret recording of the conversation involving Daniel Bugri Naabu, Superintendent Asare, and COP Mensah became public after which Parliament established a committee to investigate the matter. This committee is chaired by Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, Samuel Atta-Akyea.
