Ms. Rita Etornam Sey, the founder of the Inspire Today Foundation, who made claims that girls in Northern Ghana resort to using clay as a substitute for sanitary pads due to extreme poverty and deprivation, has been instructed by the Upper East Regional Women’s Wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to provide evidence for her statements or face consequences.
In a press release signed by Ms. Fawzia Abagnabama Yakubu, the NDC Upper East Region Women Organizer, it was demanded that Ms. Etornam Sey apologize within seven days through the same media she used to make the allegations. The release stated that if she fails to comply with the mentioned demands, appropriate action will be taken.
Ms. Sey has faced significant criticism on social media following the circulation of videos in which she claimed that some girls in certain parts of Northern Ghana use clay as a substitute for sanitary pads. Many individuals criticized her for not providing specific details about the location and the specific method of this practice in Northern Ghana.
