Alban Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, has requested a rescheduling of the mid-year budget presentation, which was initially planned for July 27. He suggests that the government should present the mid-year budget review no later than July 25, 2023.

Earlier, the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, informed the House that the Finance Minister would present the revised budget on July 27. However, the Speaker of Parliament raised concerns about this date, stating that Parliament needs to go on recess by August 3 due to certain statutory obligations. Consequently, the Speaker believes that submitting the mid-year budget on July 27 would be too late for the House’s consideration.

“So, they had to revise the timetable. And I said the latest that the budget could be submitted, is the 25th of this month, so they were compelled to call a Cabinet meeting for today instead of tomorrow, even though there are other reasons, but this is one of the reasons and the ministers are to be present for some of the discussions,” he added.
