Kissi Agyebeng, the newly appointed Special Prosecutor in Ghana, has reassured the public and civil society that anyone found responsible for illegal mining activities through the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM) report will face the necessary consequences. The IMCIM report revealed cases of corruption and malfeasance in the fight against illegal mining in Ghana. Agyebeng stated during a meeting with civil society groups that he would ensure justice is served and that no one is above the law, regardless of their status or position.
He emphasized his commitment to transparency, independence and ensuring that necessary action is taken against anyone found culpable of corruption and corruption-related offences in the mining sector. The Ghana Integrity Initiative has welcomed Agyebeng’s statement and urged all Ghanaians to support his efforts. The Office of the Special Prosecutor has confirmed that its investigations are ongoing, and necessary actions will be taken against anyone found guilty.
