In a recent report, it was noted that Mr Ibu has undergone a series of five successful surgeries and is presently in the process of recuperation within the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), as confirmed by his family. This positive update was relayed through the authenticated @realMrIbu account on Instagram on Tuesday, October 31, 2023.
The official statement on Instagram conveyed appreciation to the general public for their consistent support, well-wishes, and prayers. It also guaranteed that once Mr. Ibu’s health improves, he intends to personally acknowledge all the generous donations received.
Moreover, in addition to sharing bank account details for those willing to contribute, the Okafor family made an appeal for ongoing prayers and steadfast support. They stressed the urgent necessity for John Okafor to stabilize swiftly to enable his transfer abroad for further advanced treatment.

A few days ago, a video emerged online showing Mr Ibu celebrating his 62nd birthday while in a hospital bed surrounded by his family.
This video raised concerns among his supporters. It displayed Mr Ibu wearing a hospital gown and seated on the bed while his family sang the happy birthday song to him. A cart with his birthday cake and some drinks was placed in front of him.
Despite weakly lip-syncing to the song while holding the knife in the cake, Mr Ibu appeared uncomfortable, frequently shaking his leg while trying to remain seated. His other leg, which was stretched out, seemed swollen and in poor condition.
Regrettably, this is not the first instance Mr Ibu has been admitted to the hospital. He has survived multiple life-threatening situations and has shared his experiences.

In 2020, he revealed being poisoned by some of his workers in an alleged attempt on his life. This took place in his village in Enugu, where he was assaulted in his office by his staff and poisoned. Fortunately, his dancers and associates rushed him to a hospital.
In 2022, he disclosed being hospitalized for several days after being poisoned during an entertainment event in Abuja.
He had said, “I just got poisoned again. It seems my enemies are using me to rehearse (their powers). This time, I wasn’t poisoned in the village, I was poisoned in Abuja last week at an entertainment event. I really cannot explain how I was poisoned because it was a gathering of people, though it was not a big event,” he said.
