According to reports, WhatsApp’s buddy mode functionality is now available to all Android beta testers. The feature, which allows users to link an existing WhatsApp account to a new cell phone, has been in the works for quite some time. The companion mode feature is an enhancement of multi-device support and is claimed to have arrived with WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.23.8.2. However, the Meta-owned instant messaging site has not stated when it plans to make the companion mode available to all users.
According to WhatsAppfeature tracker WABetainfo, WhatsApp has delivered companion mode for all Android beta testers. It is stated to be available to all Android beta testers who have WhatsApp beta for Android versions 2.23.8.2 and higher. It allegedly allows users to access their chat accounts from several smartphones.
Users are advised to take these procedures in order to connect WhatsApp to a secondary device.
- Download the new beta version of WhatsApp Messenger or WhatsApp Business on the secondary device.
- Select Link a device from the overflow menu
- Open WhatsApp on the primary device, and head to Settings > Linked devices.
- Point this device to the secondary mobile phone to scan the QR Cod.

A linked secondary Android smartphone or tablet device does not have the same capabilities as the primary device. Users will still be able to view chats and chat archives. The primary device may be the only one with the capacity to control broadcast lists and post a status update.
According to the source, WhatsApp is not currently working on the similar functionality for WhatsApp beta for iOS.
WhatsApp debuted multi-device capability in March of last year, allowing users to access their accounts on numerous devices at the same time. End-to-end encryption has also been enabled for WhatsApp talks. If the phone is dormant for more than two weeks, the associated devices will be unplugged. However, the feature only works with PCs as secondary devices and is inconvenient for users who have many mobile phones and tablets. With the release of this new companion mode update, this may soon alter.
