This admonishment came during the proceedings on Friday, December 8, 2023, as Mr. Bagbin expressed his concerns about the recurring issue of members being habitually late. He noted that some members enter the Chamber after he has already taken his seat, emphasizing that this should not be the case.
To address this matter, the Speaker announced a punitive measure: going forward, the doors will be locked immediately upon his entry, and they will remain closed for a period of time before reopening. He believes that this approach will encourage members to arrive early, ensuring that the business of the day begins on schedule.
