Francis Addai-Nimoh, the former Member of Parliament for Asante Mampong, is being considered as a potential fifth candidate in the New Patriotic Party’s Presidential Primary, which is scheduled for November 4.
The National Executive Committee (NEC) will make a decision on this matter on Monday, prompted by an earlier communication from Boakye Kyeremanteng Agyarko announcing his withdrawal from the race.

“So, a week today, if no one has stepped aside for the other, then we look forward to another election for a fifth person,” Rev Prof Oquaye told journalists at the NPP Headquarters in Accra.
“At the end of the day, we are going to present five contestants for the grand finale.”
In the recent Super Delegates Conference held on Saturday, both Addai-Nimoh and Agyarko received an equal number of nine votes, placing them jointly in fifth position. As per the election regulations, a runoff was announced by Chairman of the Presidential Elections Committee, Rev Prof Aaron Mike Oquaye, a former Speaker of Parliament. This decision followed the official declaration of results by the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC).
Rev Prof Oquaye fixed the date of September 2 for the runoff, although he mentioned that the situation could change depending on the decisions of either candidate.

During a radio interview on Monday, a member of the Boakye Agyarko Campaign Team, Darlington Bill Boampong-Bediako, announced Agyarko’s decision to step down from the race. He revealed that several aspirants were dissatisfied with the conduct of Saturday’s elections but were hesitant to voice their concerns. Boampong-Bediako conveyed that Agyarko is confident about his chances of winning the runoff, but his decision to withdraw is final.
Boampong-Bediako also stated that Agyarko’s decision has been communicated to his supporters, who have shown their support for this choice.
