
The Ministry of Education has given a clarification regarding the instruction from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to hold back the salaries of lecturers in Colleges of Education who took part in the recent strike. Kwasi Kwarteng, the Ministry’s Public Relations Officer, explained the reasoning behind this decision in a statement provided to Adom News.

He raised the question of where CETAG expected the government to find the funds for their salaries when they hadn’t fulfilled their job responsibilities. Mr. Kwarteng restated that the government would not be distributing salaries for August due to the lecturers’ failure to carry out their duties, which disqualifies them from compensation.
This directive highlights the government’s position on the “No Work, No Pay” principle, affirming that payment should align with services provided.
