The executives of the Bawumia Fun Club in the Ashanti region publicly showcased physical cash to demonstrate their support for purchasing the nomination form for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the flagbearer race. During a press briefing in Kumasi, the Chairman of the group, Eric Kwabena Twumasi Ankrah, raised a bundle of GHS200 notes amounting to GHS50,000, symbolizing the club’s readiness to acquire the form on behalf of the Vice President.

Ankrah informed the press that the club’s members and executives had decided to travel to Accra on May 24, 2023, to obtain the nomination form even before the official date set by the NPP’s National Executive Committee (NEC) on June 26, 2023.
“Dr. Bawumia has not given us any money to pay for his nomination forms,” he stated.
He explained that each member pays GHS1.00 every week. He added that the club was formed 10 years ago with 37 branches across the country.
“We have seven representatives at every polling station in the country and all our members are delegates,” he added.
When questioned about the source of the funds, the President explained that the money was sourced from the accumulated dues paid by club members. He clarified that each member contributes GHS1.00 per week, and the club, which has been in existence for ten years, has 37 branches across the country.

Chairman Ankrah, also known as “akoko,” justified their decision by stating that Vice President Dr. Bawumia was the only individual they considered suitable to lead the party in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
“We have followed him for over ten years and considering his level of humility, vision for the party and country, and the stellar interventions, we are left with no other option than to throw our support behind him and show our love for him by paying for his nomination forms,” he added again.
