Clement Apaak, the Member of Parliament for Builsa South, has accused former Finance Minister Dr. Kwabena Duffour of planning to establish a new political party in order to aid the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in breaking the eight-year electoral cycle. Apaak made these allegations in a tweet shortly after Dr. Duffour announced his withdrawal from the presidential primaries of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Apaak expressed concerns about the potential consequences of Dr. Duffour’s next move, suggesting that he might be intending to punish the NDC by forming his own party.

Apaak further stated that such a decision would be a great disappointment, emphasizing that Dr. Duffour would have faced a significant defeat in the primaries had he continued. Dr. Duffour cited the flawed voter register as his reason for withdrawing from the race, highlighting his unwillingness to participate in a fraudulent election. The NDC’s primaries to select candidates for the 2024 general elections are scheduled to take place today, with former Kumasi Mayor Kojo Bonsu and former President John Dramani Mahama remaining as the presidential candidates following Dr. Duffour’s withdrawal.
