Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, a flagbearer aspirant of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has withdrawn his application for an injunction against the party’s presidential and parliamentary primaries. His lawyers informed the court on Friday, May 12, that they had been instructed by their client to discontinue the case.
Abraham Amaliba, the Director of Legal Affairs of the NDC, confirmed the discontinuation of the case and expressed gratitude to the party’s Council of Elders, National Chairman, and General Secretary for their efforts in resolving the matter. He also thanked Dr. Duffuor for his magnanimity in withdrawing the case, emphasizing that it demonstrated the unity of the NDC.

“I will like to use this opportunity to thank the Council of Elders of the party, National Chairman, General Secretary for the effort put in place in resolving this matter.
“I also want to thank Dr Duffuor, the Presidential aspirant for his magnanimity and to accept to withdraw this matter from court. What this shows is that the NDC is united.”
Dr. Duffuor initially filed the injunction application at the High Court on Tuesday, May 9, citing concerns about the electoral album and seeking to halt the primaries. The application highlighted the alleged delay in delivering the photo album to his representatives, stating that it did not provide sufficient time for the required verification exercise before the internal elections scheduled for May 13, 2023.
“The plaintiff avers that the partial delivery of the Photo Album to his representatives on 4th May 2023 was in itself out of time considering the magnitude of the verification exercise required of them before the internal elections of 13th May 2023,” Part of the application stated.

Earlier, Dr. Duffuor’s campaign team had requested a postponement of the Presidential Primaries, asserting that the voters’ register or photo album for 220 constituencies contained numerous discrepancies, rendering it incomplete and inaccurate. They believed that proceeding with the election using such a flawed register would undermine its credibility and integrity, potentially causing irreparable damage to Dr. Kwabena Duffuor’s aspirations as a flagbearer.
