A man impersonating a military officer under the false name WOII Samuel Owusu Dartey has been apprehended by the police in the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis of the Western Region. The suspect, who often carried a pistol and handcuffs, had been terrorizing unsuspecting residents, sometimes even donning a military uniform.
The incident that exposed the imposter involved Clifford Pablo Yakah, a private surveyor working in Ntankoful within the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis. The imposter had been hired by a family to intimidate Yakah, who was handling a land issue for the family head.
Yakah explained, “I am a private surveyor working on some documents for a family. One day, while I was there, the family introduced the suspect to me as a military officer (WOII Samuel Owusu Dartey) who also worked with the National Security Intelligence Unit. They stated that he would be assisting me with the land documents.” However, the suspect began tormenting Yakah, demanding that he hand over the land documents or face consequences.

“One early morning, he arrived at my house dressed in military uniform, carrying a pistol and handcuffs. He ordered me to dress up and accompany him. Suspecting something was amiss, I contacted my relative who serves in the military. The imposter was tracked and subsequently arrested. Investigations revealed that he was not a military officer. He is currently assisting with inquiries at the Kwesimintsim Police Station,” Yakah recounted during an interview with Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson, the host of Connect FM’s Omanbapa morning show.

During a search, a pistol, military uniform, and a list containing names of individuals from whom he had allegedly extorted money under the pretense of military recruitment were recovered from the suspect. It has been reported that an identification parade will be arranged for other victims to identify him. Numerous victims have come forward to share their experiences with the imposter since his arrest, indicating the extent of his fraudulent activities.
