The National Communications Authority (NCA) has issued a warning that approximately 11 million unregistered SIM cards are going to be disabled. According to the Director-General of the NCA, Joe Anokye, these subscribers must register their SIM cards by the end of May this year. Although the mass SIM registration for existing SIMs is ending soon, there are still a significant number of SIM cards that remain unregistered. During a press briefing in Accra on Wednesday April 26, he emphasized that the subscribers with unregistered SIMs must complete the registration process by May 31, 2023, or risk deactivation from the network. The Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications has already urged subscribers with unregistered SIMs to register them.

“One of the things to note is that active mass SIM registration for existing SIMs is coming to a close and as mentioned earlier, we have about 11 million SIMs which are yet to begin the registration process, these subscribers have up to the end of May 2023 to complete their SIM registration or have their SIMs deactivated from the network,” he said a press briefing in Accra on Wednesday April 26.
“Subscribers with Ghana cards can avoid this inconvenience by completing stage 2 (the biometric capture) of the registration process,” the chamber said in a statement.
