The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has confirmed the successful evacuation of 82 Ghanaian nationals from Khartoum, Sudan. As of now, 77 individuals have been transported to safety in Gedaref, Sudan and will be moved to Ethiopia on Wednesday, April 26th. The remaining five individuals, including three footballers and two workers for an Australian mining company, are currently being evacuated through the Egyptian border post of Wadi Halfa, located north of Sudan.
Efforts are still underway to evacuate any other stranded Ghanaian nationals in Sudan. The Ministry urges any Ghanaian citizens stranded in Sudan to take note of the contact details of its Honorary Consul, who is on standby to assist with their safe evacuation.
The civil war in Sudan has caused significant unrest in the country, with the capital engulfed in smoke and the military fighting against the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces. The conflict has resulted in the death of approximately 400 people and over 3,500 people being wounded. Citizens, including Sudanese nationals, are fleeing the capital for border towns and neighbouring countries.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration emphasizes that the safety and wellbeing of Ghanaian citizens living abroad is a priority for the government. We will continue to work with international partners, including the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), to ensure the safe evacuation of any Ghanaian nationals in affected areas.
