Released on November 14, 2024, Sam George’s debut single “Nothing Will Cure It” is a genre-bending masterpiece that shows the Newcastle-based singer/songwriter’s unique sound. This captivating track seamlessly blends elements of 70’s funk and soul with heavier alternative/rock styles, creating a distinctive and refreshing listening experience.

Sam George’s musical influences are evident throughout the track, with nods to Marvin Gaye, Bowie, Smashing Pumpkins, and Queens of The Stone Age. The funky guitar licks and chunky choruses are reminiscent of classic funk and rock, while the breathy, androgynous vocal delivery adds a touch of Smashing Pumpkins-esque flair.

The lyrics of “Nothing Will Cure It” are an exploration of heartache and longing. Sam George’s words paint a vivid picture of a toxic relationship, where the protagonist is desperate to hold on, despite the pain and futility. The lines “Whisper your name, in your ear / As you cry your whole world down my sleeve” are particularly striking, conveying the intimacy and desperation of the situation. The repetition of “I can’t live hopefully for a lifetime” is a haunting refrain, echoing the protagonist’s despair.

The track was recorded at Blank Studios in Ouseburn, Newcastle, with the support of Arts Council England Funding. This funding enabled Sam George to dedicate more time to crafting a more expansive sound and refined production.
