The scheduled ballot for the remaining flagbearer aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been postponed. This decision comes shortly after Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen withdrew from the race, and it was made following discussions with the four aspirants and their representatives by the election committee. However, the meeting concluded inconclusively, leading to the postponement of the ballot.
The committee spokesperson, Alexander Afenyo Markin, stated that the November 4 election would adhere to the party’s guidelines. Nonetheless, he did not disclose the specific issues discussed during the closed-door meeting.
“We have agreed to proceed with the guidelines. And like I said, when we are done, we will again serve you notice of the guidelines and soon thereafter we will proceed with the balloting,” he said.

Questions from the press mainly focused on the concerns raised by Alan in his letter on Tuesday night. Mr. Afenyo Markin mentioned that the committee is awaiting additional information from Alan’s team to substantiate his claims.
Furthermore, the committee prohibited the aspirants from addressing the media. Notably, one of the aspirants, Kennedy Agyapong, used an alternate exit to avoid media attention when leaving the premises.
These developments suggest a cloud of tension surrounding the meeting and its outcomes. JoyNews’ Samuel Mbura reported that an earlier engagement with a campaign member of Dr. Owusu Afriyie-Akoto was canceled by the committee spokesperson, citing a prior agreement not to do so.
