Some residents of Gomoa Buduburam, also known as Liberia Camp, have taken over Buduburam Point Hope D/A Basic School as a result of their homes being demolished by chiefs from Gomoa Fetteh and Buduburam.
These residents, including both Ghanaians and Liberians, have been affected by the demolition that commenced on Tuesday. As a consequence, classrooms at Buduburam Point Hope Basic School are now being used as living quarters by the displaced individuals, leading to the suspension of classes and the dismissal of pupils.
In discussions with Adom News, some of the affected Liberian nationals justified their occupation of the school, claiming it was originally constructed for them by the United Nations.
They express frustration at not being notified by the chiefs prior to the demolition, despite having resided in the Liberia camp for 33 years. The Gomoa Fetteh Traditional Council had previously threatened to clear portions of Zone E in the Budumburam camp to facilitate the development of a market for traders affected by ongoing road expansion works on the Kasoa-Winneba Highway.
