The third hearing in the case of alleged assault at Adisadel College has been postponed to Wednesday, October 4, 2023. This delay is due to the absence of the presiding judge, Eric Oheneba Antwi Boasiako.

Judge Boasiako, who is the primary judge of Cape Coast District Court II handling the case, is currently on leave, and there is uncertainty regarding his return date. As a result, the case has been temporarily transferred to District Court I, where the parties involved will continue to seek adjournments until Judge Boasiako’s return.

There was minimal activity in court on the scheduled day, as the judges were attending a conference. They are expected to resume proceedings on Monday, October 2.

The 17-year-old student at the center of the incident, who is facing charges of assault and causing harm, denied these allegations during his second appearance in court on Wednesday, August 2. His legal counsel, Tsiquaye Grant, had requested the court to postpone the juvenile’s plea until he completed his final exams, WASSCE. However, the request was denied by the three-member panel, presided over by Judge Boasiako, following opposition from the prosecutor, Chief Inspector Jonathan Bediako. The panel also includes a representative from the Oguaa Traditional Council and a representative from the Department of Social Welfare. The case was then adjourned to Wednesday, September 27, 2023, to allow the student to finish his exams.

The altercation between the juvenile and his friend reportedly occurred in a dormitory over a SIM card. The fight resulted in the juvenile slamming his friend’s face onto a metal bed frame, as depicted in a viral video.

The incident sparked public outrage over bullying in schools and attracted the attention of the Ministry of Education and the office of the Attorney General, which initiated legal action.
