OHNomad’s Universal Connection: Junko is a masterfully composed tribute that transcends genre and borders, weaving together sound, memory, and culture into a deeply moving experience. As part of his Universal Connection project, composer Owens Huang (OHNomad) draws inspiration from friends whose cultural identities shape each piece. Here, he honors Junko, an elder Japanese architect whose life reflects resilience, tradition, and quiet strength.

Performed by flutist Ann Kuo, cellist Keina Satoh, and pianist Chi-Jo Lee, the trio delivers a performance rich in nuance. Kuo’s flute lines float like silk in the wind—elegant and serene. Satoh’s cello offers grounding depth and emotional resonance, while Lee’s piano stitches their voices together with grace and precision. Together, they craft a soundscape that feels at once personal and universal.

Recorded by Grammy-winning engineer Matthew Snyder, the clarity and warmth of the piece enhance its intimate power. From its premiere in Mountain View to an upcoming performance in Tokyo, Junko stands as a living bridge between generations, cultures, and histories.
