As Ghanaians celebrate Green Ghana Day by engaging in tree planting activities, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has issued a warning against planting trees beneath Low Voltage Lines to avoid potential disruptions in electricity supply.
Engineer Emmanuel Justice Ofori, the Western Regional Manager of ECG, led ECG staff in raising awareness and planting trees at the All Saint Anglican School in Takoradi. The ECG has set a target of planting 5,000 trees in the region. However, Engineer Emmanuel emphasized the importance of not planting trees under Low Voltage Lines, as the growth of these trees could interfere with the power supply if they come into contact with the lines.

In the meantime, the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, in collaboration with the Forestry Commission, has encouraged all Ghanaians and residents to actively participate in the national tree-planting initiative. This initiative plays a crucial role in a comprehensive afforestation and reforestation plan aimed at restoring Ghana’s depleted forest cover.
The inaugural Green Ghana Day aimed to plant five million trees, but the enthusiastic participation of the public surpassed expectations, resulting in the planting of over seven million trees. Building on this success, the following year’s Green Ghana Day achieved even greater results, with over 26 million trees planted, surpassing the initial goal of 20 million. This year, the nation aims to plant an additional 10 million seedlings nationwide, while also nurturing the over 30 million trees planted in 2021 and 2022.
