During an interview on #3FMDrive with AJ Sarpong, Fella Makafui opened up about a sex tape controversy that had a detrimental impact on her career and almost led her to contemplate suicide. The Yolo actress shared that she was devastated when her manager contacted her to confirm the authenticity of the tape. However, Shatta Wale swiftly intervened by sharing a video link that proved she wasn’t the person in the tape, which significantly helped her regain her confidence and move forward.
“I really broke down like couple of years ago, I almost took my life. You know people who don’t explain themselves. I am a very free-spirited person, I hate to have grudges, I want to always have a clear mind that’s what makes me very productive so when these things come online and I feel like I don’t explain myself , it tends to bother me. At a point, that was how I was feeling,” she stated.

Fella Makafui acknowledged that without the support of Shatta Wale, the situation could have taken a negative turn.
“My manager called me and said precious I know you can’t do this but there’s a tape out there, is it of you and I said what?? There was no tape to show but the information was out there,” the mother of one recalled “So I told myself I didn’t think I can take it anymore. Shatta Wale was the one that saved me from the controversy. The girl had the same faces me, I got home and I was crying then Shatta called me at 11 and he was like “mummy, mummy forget forget and shared the link with me, so when I watched it the girl had a tattoo on her back and I don’t have one.”
“If Shatta hadn’t sent the link, I’d have believed it and killed myself. If you remember he came on social media and blasted people then shared the link to confirm that I wasn’t the victim,” she added
The interview also shed light on the significance of mental health and self-care in the entertainment industry. Fella Makafui emphasized that the pressures of fame and the constant scrutiny from the public can have a toll on even the strongest individuals. It is worth noting that in 2018, during the peak of her popularity, Fella Makafui faced scrutiny when reports emerged that her alleged sex tape had been leaked on social media.
“And since then I said I’ll never listen to people online, they don’t know me, they can’t judge me and I’m not going to let them decide or dictate what to do or what not to do,” she added.

The circulating sex tape was purported to feature Fella Makafui and her ex-boyfriend, and many people immediately drew comparisons between the woman in the video and the actress. However, Fella Makafui and her management vehemently denied the video, asserting that it was a deliberate attempt to shame her and turn her fans against her. Ultimately, she was exonerated as the tattoo that was claimed to be on her back was not found, as she had initially stated.
