Mbekezeli Nxumalo, a 23-year-old Zimbabwean man, has been sentenced to five years in prison after confessing to the crime of motor vehicle theft. During the trial, the State, represented by Siphiwe Mhlanga, provided additional details, revealing that Nxumalo had initially planned to steal the car but abandoned it in Lupane due to a technical issue. According to Mhlanga, Nxumalo and Khuphe had met at a city center drinking spot, where they consumed alcohol late into the night. When it was time to part ways, Khuphe offered Nxumalo a ride. Upon reaching Khuphe’s city residence, Nxumalo remained inside, appearing to be asleep, while Khuphe briefly left the car with the keys in the ignition. Upon returning a few minutes later, Khuphe discovered that his cherished vehicle had vanished, prompting him to report the incident to the police. Subsequent investigations led to Nxumalo’s arrest, confirming Khuphe’s suspicions.
