Tragedy struck as Mr Kofi Gyan, a man in his late 40s, lost his life in a car accident while traveling with his two nieces to attend his late mother’s funeral in the Bono East Region. The unfortunate incident occurred on Friday, May 19, 2023, at Enyiresi in the Eastern Region, along the Accra-Kumasi highway.
Mr Gyan’s Hyundai Sonata, with registration number GS 7776-19, veered off the road and plunged into a river, following a near head-on collision situation with a Sprinter bus that had improperly overtaken another vehicle. The front of the car sustained severe damage due to the impact of the crash.

With the assistance of local residents, firefighters were able to retrieve the car and the bodies from the river. The deceased have been taken to the Enyiresi Government Hospital, where their remains have been deposited.
Mr Kofi Gyan, the victim, held the position of Executive Director at Initiators of Change Foundation, an NGO. The two nieces who also lost their lives in the accident were in their twenties. This incident has left a deep sense of loss and sorrow for their family and friends.
