Information Minister Fatimatu Abubakar has urged the media to thoroughly verify information before publishing to prevent national chaos and embarrassment.
She referred to a recent incident where a Ghanaian chef held a press briefing claiming recognition by Guinness as the cook-a-thon record holder, which was widely published by major media outlets without proper verification.
In an interview with the media in Accra on Monday, Madam Abubakar called the issue an embarrassment to the country and stressed that such mistakes should not be repeated.

The Minister warned that if a similar incident occurred in the political arena, particularly concerning election matters, it could cause significant conflicts or chaos.
“The media has the responsibility to verify every information before publication…it’s dangerous to spread falsehood because it could lead us into chaos,” she noted.
Meanwhile, as part of efforts to decentralize government communication and inform citizens about its projects, Madam Abubakar announced that her Ministry would hold regional town hall meetings and exhibitions across the country starting at the end of July.
These town hall meetings will involve regional and sector ministers as well as key government appointees, who will answer questions from journalists and community members about government projects.
Topics will include roads, health, education, water and sanitation infrastructure, and other local concerns.
The regional town hall meetings and exhibitions aim to ensure transparency and accountability regarding government projects, providing feedback for the government.
