On Wednesday, May 10, a tragic incident occurred where a boat carrying school children capsized, resulting in the confirmed death of nine children. The incident took place during their journey from Faana to Kelee in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.
According to our correspondent Joseph Armstrong’s report on Thursday, the children who lost their lives were aged between 8 and 15. Initially, the bodies of eight children were discovered and subsequently taken to the morgue at Korle Teaching Hospital. However, the ninth child’s body was found on Thursday morning following an intensive search conducted by concerned individuals.

Christian Afiadenyo, the Municipal Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), stated that three pupils managed to survive the tragic incident. He mentioned that it is believed that one of the surviving pupils was operating the boat at the time of the incident, although he expressed uncertainty about this information.
The entire town has been engulfed in grief and mourning since the incident occurred. The loss of these young lives has undoubtedly had a profound impact on the community, as they come to terms with the tragic event.

The ‘Tuma’ hitmaker stated that deliberate efforts to highlight acts from other regions whose songs are not widely known due to language barriers have not been made.
A situation she explained contradicts the definition of the VGMA as an award scheme to honour musicians in Ghana because it only focuses on specific groups of musicians in certain regions of the country.
