The Oguaa Traditional Council recently inducted four Chinese industrialists into the Cape Coast community through a special traditional naming ceremony held at the Emintsimadze Palace, the residence of Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II, Oguaamanhen.
This gesture was a mark of acknowledgment for their commitment to contribute to the development of Oguaa, and they were given local names to signify their integration as natives with names from the Ebiradze Royal Family of Cape Coast.

The recipients of this honor were high-ranking executives from the TIAST Group, an agricultural machinery company, and their associates from the Health Community of West Africa, a health-oriented organization. Their visit to Cape Coast was in support of the recently concluded Central Regional Investment, Trade, and Tourism Expo (Central Expo), with the TIAST Group as the official partner.
For instance, Hehui Chen, Chairman of TIAST China, who was born on a Friday, was named Kofi Esar. Likewise, David Tai, CEO of TIAST West Africa, also born on a Friday, was given the name Kofi Sekum.

Anna Jiang, Chief Director of the Health Community of West Africa, born on a Wednesday, was named Ekua Bentumaa, while her translator, Danchen Xu, born on a Friday, received the name Efua Aboagyewaa. Following tradition, the Omanhene, during the naming ceremony, used an Adwen (wisdom) leaf to scoop water three times for each honoree to drink, after which he also used the same leaf to serve them liquor three times. This ritual aimed to help them discern between good and bad, and to distinguish truth from falsehood.
Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II then extended this symbolic act to all witnesses of the naming ceremony by serving them a mixture of water and liquor.
The four recipients, Kofi Esar, Kofi Sekum, Ekua Bentumaa, and Efua Aboagyewaa, were visibly delighted and adorned with vibrant bead accessories as tokens of appreciation.
Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II encouraged the newly integrated community members to work diligently and actively participate in the development of the community. He emphasized the importance of truthfulness and urged them to regard the people of Oguaa as their own family, extending to them the respect and support they deserve.
“And if we are satisfied with what you have done for our beloved city which you are now a part of, we will gather here once again to honour and reward you for your contributions,” he added.
