The distressing attack occurred during a live service at the Johannesburg branch of the Church of Pentecost on Sunday, October 29, 2023. Armed robbers intruded into the service, broadcast live, and proceeded to steal valuable possessions from the congregation.

Following the robbery, the perpetrators abducted a deacon of the church. The Ghana High Commission in South Africa has officially confirmed the incident and ensured that they are actively collaborating with security agencies for the safe release of the deacon. The chairman of The Church of Pentecost in Ghana, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, stated in an announcement dated October 31, 2023, that a three-day prayer and fasting period would run from October 31 to November 2, 2023.

During this period, the church will intercede for global peace, with a specific focus on the ongoing conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine.
