The Church of Pentecost elder, who was previously taken during a robbery incident at the church in Johannesburg, South Africa last Sunday, has been liberated. Graphic Online reported his release on Tuesday night, and he has since joyfully reunited with his family. Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Eswatini (Swaziland), Lesotho, Mauritius, and the Seychelles, Charles Owiredu, shared this heartening news via a tweet on Wednesday morning (November 1, 2023).

The distressing attack occurred during a live service at the Johannesburg branch of the Church of Pentecost on Sunday, October 29, 2023. Armed robbers intruded into the service, broadcast live, and proceeded to steal valuable possessions from the congregation.
Following the robbery, the perpetrators abducted a deacon of the church. The Ghana High Commission in South Africa has officially confirmed the incident and ensured that they are actively collaborating with security agencies for the safe release of the deacon. The chairman of The Church of Pentecost in Ghana, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, stated in an announcement dated October 31, 2023, that a three-day prayer and fasting period would run from October 31 to November 2, 2023.
During this period, the church will intercede for global peace, with a specific focus on the ongoing conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine. Apostle Nyamekye mentioned the collaboration between the Church and Ghana’s High Commission in South Africa, as well as the South African authorities, to secure the safe release of the deacon.

Meanwhile, the Church of Pentecost in Johannesburg has announced a three-day fasting and prayer period, seeking God’s intervention to bring the kidnapped deacon, taken during the armed robbery incident last Sunday, back to safety.
