“The Sound of Birdsong” by GISKE feels like a dream you don’t want to wake up from, soft, hypnotic, and timeless. It’s the kind of track that doesn’t demand attention but quietly earns it, slipping under your skin with its warmth and subtle detail.

Built on layers of gentle acoustic guitar, intimate vocals, and an ethereal shimmer, the song balances between folk-pop and dream pop, echoing the textures of Nick DrakeThe Smiths, and even Cocteau Twins. There’s a nocturnal calm to it, something that feels like a long exhale after a sleepless night.

The lyrics drift like a memory: “She wakes up to the sound of birdsong / While restless winds caress the trees.” Each line paints a picture of longing and quiet wonder. The recurring plea “I fall asleep and dream of birdsong / But please don’t wake me from this dream”  captures that fragile peace we all chase but rarely hold onto.

One thing that makes the song even more special is the story behind it. Rune Berg and Alex Rinde’s musical friendship began in 1991 with a bike ride across their home island of Giske in Norway. That spark turned into decades of collaboration from their gold-certified band The Margarets to the rebirth of GISKE. Now, with Ten Visits, Ten Songs, they return to the island’s quiet beauty. Each track was born from Rune’s train rides from Oslo to visit Alex in his “Yellow House,” transforming conversations and moments into music.
