The University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has been awarded a grant of €18,000.00 by the Volvo Research and Educational Foundations (VREF) for a research project. A team of five researchers from UEW will utilize the grant to conduct a course titled “The State-of-the-Art in Scientific Writing and Publication” for the second time at the university.
The training program is scheduled to take place from Tuesday, July 25th to Tuesday, September 19th, 2023, and will primarily target emerging scholars from across the African continent. The course, consisting of eight modules, will cover various aspects of scientific writing and publication. It will delve into topics such as selecting a research subject, identifying research gaps, manuscript structure and content, scientific writing techniques, abstract composition, reference management, citation practices, and criteria for choosing reputable journals.

The course will be facilitated by a team of esteemed educators, including Prof. Enoch F. Sam (Course Lead), Prof. Lucy Effeh Attom, Prof. (Mrs.) Esther Yeboah Danso-Wiredu, Prof. Samuel K. Hayford, Dr. Prince Kwame Odame (all from UEW), Prof. Ann Lopez (from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto, Canada), and Dr. Ibraheem Forson Abdul-Azeez (from the School of Transport and Logistics, Lagos State University, Nigeria).
In the previous year, this team successfully equipped 70 early-career scholars from Ghana, Nigeria, Zambia, Kenya, and Namibia with essential skills and tools necessary for conducting scholarly work, building and sustaining academic careers, and contributing to international knowledge production.
This project is part of the VREF MAC Skills and Tools Short Academic Course initiative, aiming to enhance research skills and capacity among scholars.
