During the annual stakeholder engagements for the Volta River Authority’s (VRA) emergency preparedness plan, VRA officials, led by Deputy Chief Executive for Services, Ing. Ken Arthur, met with Minister of Interior, Henry Quartey, and representatives from various security agencies.
This meeting aligns with the VRA’s ongoing sensitisation campaign in downstream communities south of the Akosombo Dam, impacted by last year’s dam spillage.
To date, the VRA has engaged with traditional authorities, religious leaders, and opinion leaders in the North Tongu and South Tongu districts through sensitisation workshops.

Ing. Arthur emphasized that stakeholder engagement and community sensitisation are essential due to the rainy season and the expected rise in water levels.
He mentioned that a precautionary spill might be necessary if rainfall increases, despite the current water level in the Akosombo Dam being lower than it was at this time last year.
Minister of Interior Henry Quartey suggested expanding the engagement scope to ensure all critical groups or individuals potentially affected by a spill are included.
Security agency representatives assured their readiness and support should a precautionary spill be required.
Meeting attendees included Deputy Minister Naana Eyiah, Acting Chief Director at the Ministry of Interior Doreen Annan, and Technical Advisor at the Ministry of Interior Samuel Amankwah.
