On June 18, 2025, John “JB” Meldrum released “Yahweh,” a stunning centerpiece from his monumental project Peace Oratorio, Soundtrack Live. More than a song, this performance is a living invocation, a spiritual plea rooted in the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the broader call for peace, justice, and renewal.

From the very first notes, “Yahweh” feels less like a performance and more like a collective prayer. Meldrum’s impassioned voice soars over warm guitar tones and the fullness of the live ensemble, capturing both intimacy and grandeur in the same breath.

The lyrics strike directly at the core of the human struggle: “Somewhere in this nation, to improve human condition, help each other from this war.”

This isn’t abstract poetry, it’s a reminder of real histories, ongoing struggles, and the enduring hope for unity. The live arrangement makes every word heavier with meaning; you can feel the urgency in the air, as if the audience itself becomes part of the prayer.

What makes “Yahweh” stand out is how seamlessly it fuses joyful rhythms, African drum undertones, and choral energy into a piece that both celebrates and challenges. There’s a vibrant lift to the instrumentation, echoing the celebratory feel of marches during the civil rights era, music that moved not just feet, but entire communities.

Meldrum’s guitar work anchors the piece while the ensemble swells around him, creating a raw and communal energy. The refrain “Give us one day to find a way, and we will rise like the sun” lands with the kind of emotional pull that makes you want to sing along, even on first listen.
