The governor’s office announced that Turkish security forces in Istanbul discovered counterfeit money amounting to $1 billion and apprehended six individuals connected to the operation, including three Swedish nationals and one Ghanaian.
The suspects were traced by gendarmerie forces to a storage facility located in Istanbul’s Kagithane district, where they had stored counterfeit $100 bills intended for distribution in African nations.

Following the seizure of the counterfeit currency, authorities conducted searches at the suspects’ residences, leading to the confiscation of cash and jewelry. Additionally, the Swedish and Ghanaian consulates were informed of the situation.
The counterfeit haul was the largest in Turkey’s history, the governor’s office said.
