Released on June 1, 2026, Backsprint’s interpretation of Have I Told You Lately takes one of the most beloved love songs ever written and rebuilds it from the ground up without losing its emotional core. Originally made famous by Van Morrison in 1989, the song receives a refresh that feels both respectful and remarkably personal.

Rather than leaning on the orchestral flourishes and polished arrangements associated with the original, Backsprint embraces a minimalist country-rock approach. Guitars, bass, drums, and vocals become the entire foundation of the performance, creating an atmosphere that feels intimate and refreshingly human. Every note carries a sense of authenticity, largely because the band recorded the track using multiple takes without overdubs, pitch correction, or a click track.

Lead vocalist Uroš Jojić delivers the famous lyrics with sincerity rather than imitation. His performance avoids trying to recreate Morrison’s signature style and instead finds its own identity. When he sings, “You fill my heart with gladness, take away all my sadness,” the words land naturally, supported by tasteful instrumentation that never overwhelms the sentiment.

The musicianship throughout is equally impressive. Ognjen Ninković’s guitar work provides warmth and texture, while the rhythm section of Nemanja Cvijović and Marko Kuzmanović keeps everything grounded. Ksenija Milošević’s backing vocals add subtle depth, and guest guitarist Aleksandar Petrović contributes tasteful accents that enrich the arrangement.

What makes this cover successful is its honesty. Backsprint doesn’t attempt to modernize the song with unnecessary production tricks. Instead, the band trusts the songwriting, the musicians, and the moment. The result is a version that feels like five musicians gathered in a room simply playing from the heart, proving that great songs can thrive in any setting.
