The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has initiated an investigation into the Electoral Commission’s handling of the retirement and disposal of election-related equipment.
This action follows a petition from IMANI Ghana on May 6, 2024, which raised concerns about potential misconduct and conflicts of interest within the Electoral Commission.
The petition alleges that there may have been improper handling and disposal of election equipment, such as Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs) and Biometric Voter Registration Systems (BVRs) acquired over the past ten years.

CHRAJ has requested additional information to support their investigation, including details on the number and condition of BVDs and BVRs acquired in 2011, 2018, and 2019, the cost of equipment purchased in 2020, and the names of officials and consultants involved in the disposal process.
The Commission has also asked that this information be provided within ten days to facilitate a prompt investigation.
