The police in Assin Fosu, situated in the Central Region of Ghana, have apprehended a 19-year-old woman named Comfort Aidoo on suspicion of orchestrating her own kidnapping. It is alleged that Aidoo, in collaboration with her boyfriend, devised a plan to extort a significant ransom from her parents. Despite initially being portrayed as a victim, Aidoo’s status has now shifted to that of a suspect.
According to Aidoo’s mother, she reached out to a neighbor in Breman Adumanu, located in the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District, to report her supposed abduction. In an effort to secure their daughter’s release, the parents complied with the demands and paid the ransom through a mobile money number provided by the alleged kidnapper. However, inconsistencies between the kidnapper’s account and their daughter’s version prompted the parents to involve the police in the situation.

“We heard the call about our daughter’s kidnapping, and we wanted to inform the police right away but didn’t want to lose our daughter, so we managed to raise money to pay him through the mobile money number and later let the police track the person because we used a Ghana Card to register.”
“So after paying, he told us they would drop her at the roadside, so we went for her, but upon seeing our daughter, we realised that her story was very different from that of the supposed kidnapper,” the mother told Rainbow Radio Accra.
