Check out rare photos of the Golden Stool

The revered Golden Stool, also known locally as ‘Sika Dwa Kofi,’ which holds the highest significance in the Asante Kingdom, was publicly displayed on Sunday, May 12, 2024, marking the climax of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s silver jubilee celebration. This rare event coincided with the Akwasidae festival, a significant occasion in the Asante calendar.

The event drew thousands of well-wishers, along with government officials including President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and foreign dignitaries.

As part of the preparations, certain routes leading to the palace were closed to facilitate movement within the Manhyia palace. In honor of the King’s accomplishments, dignitaries were encouraged to attire themselves in gold and white or other traditional attire.

Legend has it that the Golden Stool was manifested from the heavens by the revered Asante priest, Okomfo Anokye, and it is believed to embody the spirit and essence of the Asante kingdom.
