With Couple(t)s, North Carolina indie-folk duo Couldn’t Be Happiers deliver an album that is as structurally clever as it is emotionally sincere. The title is a triple entendre: a nod to their married relationship, their love of poetic devices, and the format of the record itself; two halves, each with love songs, protest songs, and folk stories, paired like lyrical soulmates.

Side A introduced their vision in December 2024; Side B completes it, sealing their reputation as folk-rock storytellers of rare wit and warmth. Tracks like “Plastic Bag Odyssey” and “Lydia’s Bridge” show how far their protest and folklore instincts can stretch, both quirky and chilling. Meanwhile, love songs like “Wherever You Go” and “I Got You” ground the collection in timeless human emotion.
Their instrumentation, sousaphone, musical saw, harmonica, offers rootsy textures without overshadowing their live-band essence. Produced by Doug Davis, the album strikes a delicate balance between sonic experimentation and acoustic honesty.
