Google, a subsidiary of Alphabet, has agreed to pay $8 million to settle allegations of deceptive advertising related to the promotion of the Pixel 4 smartphone, according to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. The tech giant, known for its search engine, advertising services, Android software, and ownership of YouTube, has faced scrutiny from both federal and state authorities for potential antitrust and consumer protection violations.

Paxton’s office specifically accused Google of employing radio announcers to provide testimonials for the Pixel 4, despite the company’s denial of phone usage to these individuals. Paxton emphasized the importance of truthful advertising statements from Google when operating in Texas and stated that the settlement would hold the company accountable for misleading Texans for financial gain. In response, Google expressed its commitment to advertising law compliance and stated that it was pleased to resolve the issue.
