President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed his belief that Africa and the world will feel the absence of Nigeria’s outgoing President, Muhammadu Buhari. Speaking at the public presentation and launch of two biographies about President Buhari in Abuja, Nigeria, President Akufo-Addo commended Buhari’s leadership and stated that history will view him favorably.
“As leaders, we all have our high and low moments, but I have no doubt that posterity will be kind to Muhammadu Buhari.
“West Africa, Africa, and, indeed, the world will miss his leadership – the leadership of the military ruler turned consummate democrat, who was extremely solicitous of Nigeria and Africa’s interest, and who sought for principle in all decisions in which he took,” the President remarked

President Akufo-Addo, who chaired the event, congratulated the authors, Anthony Goldman and Senator Abu Ibrahim, for their diligent work in documenting the legacies of President Buhari. The books shed light on Buhari’s efforts to transform Nigeria for the better.
President Buhari, born on December 17, 1942, served as Nigeria’s President after winning the 2015 elections, becoming the first opposition candidate to assume the presidency peacefully after a period of political unrest in the country. He had previously held the position of Head of State from 1984 to 1985 during a time of heightened jihadist insurgencies and frequent abductions and kidnappings.
President Buhari is expected to leave office on May 29, 2023, when the new government takes over. President Akufo-Addo urged African writers to honestly and skillfully portray the African narrative, acknowledging achievements where deserved and offering criticism when necessary.
