Renowned Afrobeat artist and Grammy-nominated singer, Seun Kuti, revealed in an interview that he has abandoned Christianity and embraced voodoo practices. Despite his family’s historical involvement in establishing the Anglican Church in Nigeria, Seun expressed his decision to distance himself from the religion. The family’s Christian roots can be traced back to his great grandfather, Josiah Ransome-Kuti, and his grandfather, Reverend Israel Oludotun Ransome-Kuti, who were Anglican ministers during the colonial era.

In a recent episode of the ‘Spill With Phyna’ podcast, Seun openly declared his connection to ‘juju’ and anticipated that traditional religion would see a resurgence among conservative Nigerians.
“It was my family that started Anglican side of Christianity in this country, if you look back at it. We are among the pioneers so, I’ve been there, we’ve done that and I’ve moved on and I hope Africans can follow suit” Seun Kuti added.
