This week, we received an early glimpse of the design for this year’s upcoming iPhones, showcasing a redesigned camera layout, two Pro-exclusive features coming to the standard models, and other expected changes for the iPhone 16.
Leaked iPhone 16 cases, first identified by TechNetBook, reveal how Apple’s planned updates have influenced the smartphone’s exterior design.
One of the most significant changes is the orientation of the camera lenses. For the iPhone 16, Apple appears to be moving away from the iPhone 15’s diagonal arrangement on a square camera island, opting instead for a vertically aligned camera stack.
This adjustment is rumored to enable all iPhone 16 models to record spatial video, a feature currently exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro models. While standard video recording and photography won’t be affected, the new camera arrangement is ideal for spatial capture, as the side-by-side lenses mimic human eye positions when recording in landscape mode.

Soon, anyone with one of the latest iPhones could capture custom 3D video, viewable on an AR/VR headset like the Vision Pro.
Additionally, the iPhone 16 cases highlight a covered button area where the mute switch used to be, likely for Apple’s new Action button. This side key, introduced with the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, can be long-pressed for various programmable shortcuts. Based on the case designs, the Action Button seems set to be included in all iPhone 16 models, no longer a Pro exclusive.
Lastly, a cutout below the power button suggests that another Pro feature, a dedicated camera button, might be coming to all standard iPhone 16 models. The case reveals a complete cutout for the button, supporting rumors that it is touch-sensitive and allows users to quickly perform actions like capturing photos and adjusting zoom and focus.
Of course, these details should be taken with caution until Apple’s usual September launch. In the meantime, check out all the latest rumors in our iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max hubs.
